Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that deals with the endocrine system that controls the hormones in your body.
Hormones are essential for our every-day survival as they control our temperature, sleep, mood, stress, growth and more.
These are chemicals which affect the actions of different organ systems in the body.
Endocrinology is a sub specialty of Internal Medicine that is concerned specifically with the evaluation, management and treatment of patients with disorders related to various hormones in the body with a multidisciplinary team approach (eg. Radiology, Pathology etc) as needed.
The term 'endocrinologist' is used for a doctor who treats diseases related to problems with hormones. But, if you need surgery for an endocrine disorder, your endocrinologist may refer you to an endocrine surgeon.
